Tour description

Your tour begins in front of Palazzo San Giorgio, one of Genoa’s most iconic historic buildings and the former seat of maritime and commercial power of the Genoese Republic. Here you’ll admire its majestic façade and learn about the crucial role this palace played in the city’s history.

Continue to the Old Port, for centuries the beating heart of Genoa’s life. This vibrant area blends history and modernity, with monuments, piers, scenic views, and lively venues along the waterfront.

Walking through the characteristic caruggi, Genoa’s narrow medieval alleys, you’ll reach the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. This striking Romanesque-Gothic church is the city’s main place of worship and even houses a curious relic: an unexploded bomb left from past conflicts.

The tour then takes you to Piazza De Ferrari, Genoa’s cultural and administrative hub, famous for its grand fountain and elegant palaces, followed by Piazza San Matteo, a charming square that tells the story of medieval Genoa through its tower-houses and distinctive architecture. Nearby, you’ll admire the exterior of the imposing Palazzo Ducale, once the seat of Genoa’s ruling families and today a cultural landmark.

Next, stroll along Strada Nuova, a UNESCO World Heritage Site lined with magnificent Renaissance palaces that showcase the wealth and influence of the city’s nobility. The visit continues to Porta Soprana, one of the ancient medieval gates that once protected Genoa.

Finally, the tour ends outside the House of Christopher Columbus, a symbolic site tied to the life of the world-famous navigator. Here you’ll admire the historic façade and reflect on Genoa’s role in the great Age of Exploration.
